Some Commercial Work

April Smith, apart of Cable Woodworking, has recently started making some cool Prayer stools. They are unique, because the stools are meant to be given as a gift, and the giver writes a prayer on a piece of paper and places them in the stool, to be sealed forever; and the receiver gets to use the stool for prayer. Neat idea. I took a picture of the stool, but the emblem engraved on it is what I really wanted to emphasize.

Im not going to say much about these pictures, because, for the most part, I can sum them up in a few words: Thede bowling Center. I recently got a job here, and brought my camera to work, just to have a little fun. I have a picture, and then a unique picture next to it. It is just edited differently, but, its kinda cool.

This is the pin sorter, it has a belt that places the pins in the positions they need to be.

March... Been too long

Greetings,

OK, so, I know plenty of things have been happening since March and today, except for the seasons and months changing. I actually have gotten a full time job which I have already started, and some awesome trips planned for this summer. July 3-11 I am headed to Flordia. A fun time with my dad and his new toys.

I turn 20 on July 24, and also, my camera turns one, actually, I think it is this month. woot.

I can see the difference in my picture taking abilities, and I think for starting out, thats good. So here is a little to what I have been up to.

I did my first high school graduation, for Cornerstone Christian School. I value the kindness of the teachers and the parents there that wanted me to take the pictures of the sons and daughters. I learned some interesting tricks of the trade, and I took some notes what to do better for next year or any other things I may do.

Some of you that can read, and actually check your facebook, might have seen my status, "I asked her, and she said YES!!!" Well, I asked the beautiful young, vibrant, (and oh, so many other positive things) miss Emily Shipman out. We are dating as of now! yay! Just figured I would make it pulic, because you will probably see quite a bit more of her around.

Felix, AKA, da BOMB. He is my little brother from BBBS. I can't say much about him, for protection purposes, but I can say, that he is an amazing young lad that gives me a glipse of hope for the next generations. I hope that I can continue seeing him and being apart of his life, like he has been for me.

This is the Cornerstone graduating class of 2009. They were nice enough to give me a job, and I took pictures for them as well as their class photo. This might have been one of those, it was just a good time to do it type thing, because eveything was put into place.

Lastly (that I can think of), is Mr. Mathis. Tyler is a Sr. this year that is headed off to serve in the Marines and I wanted to give him a special thanks for his duty. Today, is June 6, and the 65th anniversary of D-day. So to Tyler, the armed forces of America, and those of you that died on D-day, Thank you.

New Look, New Logo

Well,

I have been taking a digital design class at Angelo State University, and I must say, it is nothing like I thought it would have been. I was expecting to be able to use the latest versions of CS and learn nifty tricks and some interesting design patterns (on a PC). Well, it turns out all three of those were wrong. I am learning the basic understanding basis of design, on a mac. I find myself coming home and pushing my alt button when I really mean to push the control and many other funny things. Macs are weird, but they are growing on me.

Yeah, I know, before I start, there is two things I should address: 1.) why I haven't posted in so long?, and 2.) why did I go to the painted ally?

A: 1.) There is no really good answer, I'm sorry. School is finishing up, so I am trying to get things done there and also keep photography going.
A: 2.) I know, I know, I tell everyone the painted ally is way over-rated... but they had never gone, and I needed somewhere there was even lighting. It came out pretty good if you ask me.

Yeah, so, I think I'm addicted to brushes. These things are so cool to use and figure out how to do it all in a new way. I know it has a very limited nature in photography, it still is fun to work some things out to say i did it.

So, look tomorrow, I have pictures of more soccer players (assuming the weather cooperates). It should be lots of fun. I guess we'll find out when we get there right?

Sincerest Apologies

To my loyal friends,

For unknown reasons, I recently encountered that my laptop and computer monitors have different color rations, and aspects. I knew this but never thought that it would be a big concern. Well, it is. I was looking at my site on a neutral party computer and some of them were just horrible.

Color was all wrong.

Dark was too dark.

And now it can be fixed :)

To show an example, we will use the soccer ones from last week:

Quite a surprising difference.

It surprised me, maybe not some of you tech guys, but, ohh well. Things from now on will be posted for the uses of monitors for desktops. Maybe soon, i will buy a iMac, for business use.

Sports photos?

Salutations fellow friends,

I was approached recently with an interesting (experimental training) job. She just wanted me to come out and take photos of their daughter's soccer games. I accepted and started taking pictures. Well, the team is awesome, they work together (from what I see, and know of soccer), and usually win. The team will remain unnamed for the sake of security purposes, and all.
Here are some snippets:

I'm not sure, but that doesn't look legal.

For those who actually read this, I went to ASU's SBDC (small business development center) today, and talked to an encouraging man named Paul. He was informed of what to do, and stressed that I should keep going. He mentioned that If I am making less than $1,000 a year from photography, it is considered a hobby, and is non-taxable. I'm totally cool with that, although I am coming up pretty close to it. I figure I will wait awhile, because if Obama (THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT) is elected President, there is supposedly "going to be cuts in taxes for the businesses that start in the next two years". I figure, its worth waiting a month.

Kind-hearted ones, welcome.

If you read my previous post, I'm going to be doing a large showing of random pictures that I haven't been able to put up for awhile. Lets start with really pretty girls, Bailey and Emily. They came to me early and asked for some senior pictures, and I think most of them came out great.

The first two are Bailey, a super extraordinary young woman, with... ok, STINKIN' awesome hair. I'll post more later, but she has several different highlights that make her red hair stand out beautifully.

The next two are of Emily. She is a energetic lady, who has a smile, that could shine to Pluto (which i still think your cool, Pluto). She was a blast to work with and had a wonderful heart.

Before I start talking about pictures, I figured, i would tell you that on Monday, October 13, I have a meeting with the small business department at ASU, to start the process of starting a business. Pray for that.

Some more play...

This one was a fun one to try to get. I used a Nikon SB600 and a small flashlight. I shined the flashlight on his arm as he slowly moved it, and then used the off camera flash ability and captured the two of them. came out pretty good if you ask me. Landon even has a black rim around him, (from me moving the camera) giving him an eerie effect.

I hope you like it, and expect some more to come. I've been taking soccer pictures, for the first time. It was an experience for me. I'm still learning. :)

Guatemala trip 2

Well, last week I returned home from Guatemala, and this week has been a busy week preparing for college to start and having two invites to important meetings on Saturday.

Here are some of the pictures that describe where we were.

I really don't have pictures of us working, because, we were all working.

We built three widow houses, added a kitchen area on to another, picked apples to raise money for some local pastors, and also helped prepare monte flor (the future location of the orphanage) for new teams to come.

It was an amazing experience to go for the second time. God did surreal things in the people around me and the places I saw were incredible. Not to mention our group was like family before we left. It was a huge blessing, and I can not wait to serve there again.

For those of you who know me, I have another chance to go back to Guatemala. I loved it the first time I went, and God provided a way for me to go back.

What happened:

Went to camp, and God told me to do 3 things, I followed the first step two days after we got back (personal), and the next thing I felt HE told me, was to get ready to go. Well I started talking to Scott about going and the pastors that went were behind us. They overheard and joined our conversation. Long story short, Monday, less than 3 days after I got back, I was asked if I wanted to go. I wasn't kidding or joking, but God kinda surprised me with the opportunity. AS of Wednesday, i am signed up ready to go.

I am ready.

There was one thing that was slightly discouraging. I had to raise $1350 in less than two full weeks. I have never taken a step like this, but the book I am reading, In a Pit, with a Lion, on a Snowy Day, says that sometimes we are set up to fail, so we become less fearful of something.

I am in full confidence that God will provide the path HE wants me on.

Hello Everyone!

After an exhausting month I am back in San Angelo and doing more work, getting ready for this year's adventures. I have been playing along with some of the other photographers, and their pictures are way cooler than mine, so i just haven't put any of my work up in awhile.

I have come to the conclusion: I am not a great point and shoot guy. I came back with more cool textures and details that are insignificant to the camp itself. Yeah, way to go Mr. Photographer.

I got the chance to finish up Pierce Love's Sr. Pictures, and I must say, they are unique. We were at his church and he wanted to get the steeple in the picture; we tried different angles, but nothing was working that I really liked. So we found a ladder and had a whole new playground on the top of the church.

The Ceremony: Gillett Wedding

These are the pictures from the actual ceremony, which was really nice. There were a few... incidents, but i would be willing to wager that no matter what wedding I do there will be some. The pastor forgot the name at the end, and the wind was blowing pretty hard in the microphone that he was given. So, the rest of it was swell, to the point where they left in the limo.

Pierce Love

Wow, this one was just fun.

Pierce Love, a CHS student, was just awesome to take pictures with us. He was really joyful, even when the cops stopped us for 'spray painting' (with a camera). They took all of our Driver's licenses, and made us wait, losing valuable sun time. But, we were appreciative that they were doing something to stop crime in our city. The looked for any outstanding warrants on me and my assistant. It was amusing, and kinda fun. We were able to relax because Pierce knew the other police officer. Anyways, here is some of my stuff.

Pre-picture Post: The Blah Blah Blah of Life

Well guys, I have internet so, I figured I would keep ya'll up to date on what I am doing (and as the title implies, there are no cool pictures to show, yet).

I first went to Washington D.C. with the Cornerstone Christian School Senior Class of 2008. It was an amazing time to spend bonding with my class, in a real time fun with the whole class. Most of our sponsors were plenty of fun to be with and I am glad they went. We started our trip on a Saturday 29, at 6:00 in the morning. (An awesome experience if you haven't ever flown in the morning) The people overbooked us and someone had to stay behind. They chose randomly and selected two people.... but thats not important.

We got there and we virtually used the metro for all transportation other than the shuttle to and from the airport. It was a fun experience to get on and I took alot of pictures with that in the background. They came out pretty well, and I will publish them in a later post, since I doubt many people will actually read this (unless forced by their wife or something). We actually had two students that got caught on the metro and went to the next station... ohh wait... that station was closed because of the time... they went a few stations over and had to come back. Our main sponsor was Mad. I can't blame her.

On the following Wednesday we went to New York, by train. It was a fun ride, especially on the way home. We were so loud that the conductor had to come back at tell us to shut up. We did pretty stinkin' good because we were like 5 trains down. It was fun to get to know everyone and just share times with the people that I see every day. I especially got closer with Michael, Ashley, Kathleen, Jessica, Katy, and Reece.

Here are some of the pictures I took when we went to Guatemala. It was an amazing trip. When the group got there, we had time to go to lunch, because 3 bags were missing. We go to Burger King, and there we ate and had a good time getting to know the missionaries that were hosting us. We get back in the vans to head back to the air port to see if the luggage came in on the next flight, and 5 people noticed that their backpacks were missing. Two of those backpacks had passports in them. (NOT a good thing in a 3rd world country) That is how the week started, and it was a trip that gave us the slogan "Easy is Overrated." First mission trip that I had ever been on like that. The place was completely different than the states. There is a big difference in "One nation under God".

Cataclysm - 2008; Cry of the Martyr

I must give it to these young musicians: they were amazing. Cry of the martyr was one of a selected number of bands to play tonight at the cataclysm event at Central High School. Ken and Chelsea - Engagement Pictures

Hey guys,

Ken proposed to Chelsea on this beautiful bridge. They are a couple truly blessed, and totally in love. They wee amazing to talk to, take pictures with, and have fun with. Regardless of the fact that they are my brother, and new sister-in-law-to-be, these two actually were great to me, and they each had a picture they wanted to 'have' and just told me their idea. That is a really cool way to get along with your photographer, and tell him, or her, what you want, of just a few things. This gives your photographer insight in what you want, and what he can give you. Just keep that in mind, if you ever want a certain thing: do not be afraid to ask.

A Starry Night

Last night was the last night that there would be a lunar eclipse until 2010. Naturally, I tried to jump on the occasion and brought two friends along: Kansas and Osiel. We watched it for a little while and then decided to take some pictures. Here are some of the pictures we got. Nothing formal, but defiantly something we will remember for awhile.

Hey guys,

Well this week I learned a few new Techniques in Photoshop, and thought I'd give you a small taste of it.

The Dreamy Look:
this one took awhile to figure out; but in the end, it came out with kind of a dream/no-realism look to it, and in my opinion, its just what I wanted.

I also kinda got a grasp on how to make things enhanced: Although I did not TAKE this picture, that is my disclaimer.

Things are kinda moving slowly, as school tries to start slamming things in our faces with cramming for midterms and also, before the senior-itus that is kicking in.

Daarrlin'

Today, is a good day.

Most of you who are reading this know who I am, and If you do not... I'll give a little about myself here and there. For those who do know me, my sister and brother-in-law just sent up their first blog posting from Australia. Check it out here. Colin lost the bet, ha, I always knew Andre'a was the smart one.

Anywho, I finished some pictures of Chrissy, whom I actually took the pictures of before Scott, but I was trying to do something I haven't done much of before. There were a few good ones, but she said she would do it again when it was not so cold outside.

Ain't she a beauty.

Well, tonight I am going to Refuge weekend. An amazing time of fellowship and just the Bible. I hope God reveals Himself to us in a new way.

A Tribute to Heroes

There are many people that we see,
But very few we want to be.
The things they say,
We want it to be that way.
To follow in their steps,
And to be their small reps,
Of what they stood for and honored.

When they leave,
Our heart breaks on our sleeve.
Just one more hug,
Shared with a gentle tug.
We have no smiles on that day,
And I would give all pay,
To see them again.

After they are gone,

A year and a half later.

I love them so,

Colin and Andre'a left this morning to go on their world adventure. I hope they grow in love with each other, and enjoy the break from their mother. I guess I can still rhyme, but maybe not next time.

Scott Jarmon - lookin' good

Hey guys, just finished some senior pictures for Scott Jarmon, they look pretty good. I must admit I was really nervous at first how they would turn out and if his parents would like them or not, but, he fooled me and turned out to be a pretty good model, and I think good is a complete understatement.

We went downtown San Angelo and found some sweet picture opportunities. Scott and I both knew what we were there to do, but that didn't stop us from having a blast. We were laughing playing around and having fun the whole time. Here are some of the cool pictures of Scott:

This is personally my favorite. I put a small flash on him and put an old 'rust' type of texture on it. It really gave the picture a different feel and it looks good.

We also had a bit of time to take some fun ones, and this... this is a beautiful myspace picture; but I don't think his parents are going to be jumping through hoops to buy this from me :)

They all look pretty spankin' good if you ask me. Good job Scoot, definately liked what we got. Plus, it was fun working with you.

Finishing Touches

As I near completion in Project Martyr, I just want to go ahead and sum up whats been going on. First of all, these guys got together in a band and wanted pictures; I volunteered and started working on this project. The guys and I went out on a very cold day in December, the day after Christmas if I recall correctly, and we shot some pictures. We got some excellent ones and they were great sports about the bad weather and the especially flat lighting. We worked our hardest and we pulled together, laughing and being guys. Here is one of the pictures we got and I edited.

We also got another one that looked rather interesting and more of a stylized fashion for band pictures
We did some singles and they also came out really well. For example Nick came out awsome with that light we had.

Chris looked sweet as well, chillin' out in his letter jacket.

Later, when I finish I will show more; but for now, thats all ya'll get.
I have a female model lined up and I have a few pics of some already that are pretty distinct. I'll post em later.
